Q1 Lights Up West End Production of Lord Of The Rings

Q1 Production Technologies has 'crossed the pond' to light the just-opened production of the musical adaptation of The Lord Of The Rings at London's Royal Drury Lane Theatre following the extravagant show's premiere run in Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre.

At nearly $US50 million - the most expensive theatrical production ever staged outside of Las Vegas - the show was originally developed for debut in London but was moved to Toronto when there was no West End theatre available to accommodate such a massive and technically complex production.

With a cast of over 70 actors and musicians and a host of high-tech special effects, the show has been cut and substantially rewritten since it's North American opening and has met with great success with British audiences and critics alike. The show - specifically noted to be a "theatrical adaptation with vital musical elements but without the structure of a musical per se" - has been called breathtaking and visually groundbreaking, largely thanks to the brilliant work of multi-award-winning Lighting Designer Paul Pyant.
